The fact that some code that uses it can compile with a warning (rather than an error) is a compiler bug. You shouldn't use this. It's just a facility to help bootstrap the internal creation of the F# runtime (FSharp.Core.dll), which happens to be written in F#, but needs a smattering of IL. There are no docs for this, as it's not a feature.

(We're not trying to be teases, we just forgot to make this all an error or rip this portion of the parser out of the final shipping compiler.)

Brian,

Thanks for clarifying - that sounds sensible, albeit disappointing. I was excited at the prospect of having more direct control over my code. Is there any particular reason that this functionality is deprecated, or was it never considered to be a feature in the first place?

Thanks!

Yes indeed. The chance to get down to the metal sometimes is just what we need!
